Brian is a talking dog, who has lived with the Griffin family since Peter picked him up as a stray. While he exhibits some typical dog behaviors like eating garbage, licking himself, leaving dead birds on the porch, intensely fearing the vacuum cleaner and the dog whistle, sleeping at the foot of Peter Griffin's bed, and trouble standing up in the car, he also possesses various anthropomorphic qualities, such as the ability to speak intelligently, drive a car, and walk bipedally. He also has a particularly sharp wit. Peter is his best friend, despite Brian's vastly superior intelligence.

Chris is not the brightest one in the family. In fact, if you hit him and then blamed it on a lamp, he would most likely believe you. Chris deals with the problems that most pubescent boys face: acne, girls, and school. He is 13 years old and currently enrolled at Buddy Cianci Junior High School which was the subject of a pornography scandal during Peter Griffin's stint as schoolboard president. Chris has been known to feel self-conscious about himself; his weight is a subject of embarrassment and he is willing to do something as drastic as convert to Judaism in order to do better in school.

Lois Griffin is Peter's sandwich-nosed wife and daughter of the extremely wealthy Pewterschmidts. Born Lois Pewterschmidt, she met Peter when he was employed as a towel boy. Her father tried to bribe Peter with $1,000,000 in order to break up their romance, but Peter's love was so great that he turned down the money. She lives at 31 Spooner Street with Peter, they have 3 children: Chris, Meg and Stewie, and also Brian, the talking, anthropomorphic family dog.

Megan (Meg) Griffin is the eldest child of Peter and Lois Griffin in the animated TV series Family Guy. She has two younger brothers; Chris and Stewie. She was voiced by an uncredited Lacey Chabert for the first season, and by Mila Kunis in subsequent seasons, though Lacey Chabert reprised the role of Meg for several second season episodes. Meg lives in the fictional town of Quahog, Rhode Island, where she attends James Woods High School as a junior. Meg is constantly seen trying desperately to be part of the 'cool crowd.' When Family Guy debuted in 1999, she was 15 years old.

Peter Löwenbräu Griffin is the obnoxious, boisterous man who is the protagonist of the show and antecedent of the title 'Family Guy.' He's a 43-year-old man of Irish (and partially black) descent currently residing in Quahog, Rhode Island with his wife Lois Griffin. They have three children, Chris, Meg, and baby Stewie. He also adopted an intellectual talking dog named Brian out of pity who formerly lived on the street as a stray.

Stewart Gilligan Griffin or 'Stewie' is the matricidal, megalomaniacal 1-year-old infant of the Griffin family. He has also been known to answer to 'Artemis', 'Agent Buckwald', and 'Snake.' Stewie is well-spoken, with an advanced vocabulary, but given to statements that are cynical or sexually ambiguous in nature. He has a love/hate relationship with the family dog, Brian, as evidenced in 'Road to Rhode Island' and 'Road to Europe.' Stewie is constantly plotting ways to kill Lois, apparently holding a grudge because of his nine-month stay in her 'ovarian Bastille.

The token black guy in the neighborhood, Cleveland is a sort of novelty in Quahog which is exemplified in his trip to Barrington Country Club. Until recently he was married to Loretta, but they separated after Loretta had an affair with Quagmire. Together they had a son, Cleveland, Jr., whose personality and energy contrast greatly with his father. He also sports a handsome mustache and often offers deep insight to that the other characters are unable to see because they are white. He used to be an accomplished auctioneer, but was struck in the head by a totem pole, which resulted in his speech being permantently slowed. Cleveland is also the president of the Quahog Chamber of Commerce.

This paraplegic cop is the fourth member of the group of buddies (along with Peter, Cleveland, and Quagmire) who live on Spooner Street. He met Peter when, after just moving into Quahog, the Happy-Go-Lucky Toy Company needed a final member for their company baseball team. Peter knew that Joe had won many awards for playing baseball in the past; he did not know that Joe was paralyzed below the waist. However, as he does most of the time, Joe proved that this wasn't enough to stop him and he led the team to victory. He lives at 33 Spooner Street with his wife, Bonnie.

Glenn Quagmire ('Quagmire' for short) is the sex-crazed pervert neighbor of the Griffins who is obsessed with Peter's wife, Lois. 'Handsome' Quagmire is a former member of the U.S. Navy, which is where he met Peter. He currently works as an airline pilot. Quagmire is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and currently resides at 29 Spooner Street, Quahog, Rhode Island.

Mort Goldman is Neil Goldman's father and the husband of Muriel Goldman. He owns the local pharmacy. He is also Jewish. He once bowled a perfect game. Mort is given to conversations about rather depressing, often grotesque topics such as bodily secretions and doesn't mind revealing details of his customers' very personal health problems. Mort once joined the medieval fair in an attempt to overcome his fear of swords. You see, he was stabbed in the ear by a man in a pirate suit when he was five years old, and again when he was 30.
